Ukrainian actor Oleksandr Rudynskyi starred in the spy multi-part thriller The Agency, produced by George Clooney.
The series premiered on November 29 on the Paramount+ platform. In the film, which covers complex geopolitical events, Rudynskyi played the role of Ukrainian military man Sasha Butenko.
His character works undercover as a doctor both in controlled Ukraine and in occupied territories. The actor admitted that this image was a challenge for him, because he sought to convey the realities of modern warfare as accurately as possible. To prepare for the role, the actor underwent a week of intensive training in London under the guidance of former military personnel.
“My agent told me about the casting. First, I went through a few rounds of auditions, and then I had a Zoom meeting with the director. When I found out that I got the role, I was very happy, but at the same time nervous. There were a lot of organizational moments. But overall I was delighted with this opportunity,” Rudinsky shared in an interview with Harpers Bazaar.
Although George Clooney did not visit the set, Rudinsky had the opportunity to meet his famous colleagues, including Richard Gere, who played one of the main roles.
The series was directed by Philip Martin and Joe Wright, and the cast included world cinema stars such as Jeffrey Wright and Michael Fassbender.
“What is especially important to me is the theme of Ukraine, which runs linearly through the entire plot. My character is part of this line, especially in the second, third, ninth and tenth episodes. There is one scene where my hero dares to do something that all Ukrainians probably dream of. I would like something like this to happen not only in the cinema, but also in real life,” the actor noted.
Oleksandr Rudynskyi will appear in the second, third, ninth and tenth episodes, and his role promises to be key to the development of events in the series.
It was previously reported that actor Paul Wesley will play the main role in the miniseries Unspoken, dedicated to the events of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
