Kyiv is interacting with the team of the US President-elect, Republican Donald Trump. When the politician adheres to his principle of “peace through strength”, the United States and the whole world will benefit from this, and there will also be no Russian military aggression.
This was said by the Volodymyr Zelensky in an evening video address on November 6.
“Today is a truly special day, and one piece of news is attracting all the attention all over the world. The absolutely convincing result of the elections in America. The clear leadership of President Trump,” Zelensky began his speech. The Head of State noted that in Ukraine and throughout Europe it was important to hear the words of the then 45th US President Trump about peace through strength.
“And when this becomes the policy principle of the 47th President of the United States, America and the whole world will definitely benefit from it,” Zelensky added. He cited the activities of the 40th US President, also a Republican, Ronald Reagan (1981–1989) as an example of the fact that in the world “people want certainty, they want freedom, a normal life.”
“And for us, this is life without Russian aggression and with a strong America, with a strong Ukraine, with strong allies. This year, we have already spoken with President Trump by phone in July, and in person at a meeting in September, and these were good conversations. We have interaction at the team level. As always, we certainly appreciate the bipartisan support of the United States,” the President of Ukraine emphasized.”
In September, the politicians met in New York. Zelensky outlined to Trump his Victory Plan for Ukraine in the war against Russia, and Trump stressed that if he wins, it will be a “very fair and quick deal.” On November 5, the US held presidential and congressional elections. Former President Donald Trump, a Republican, and current Vice President Kamala Harris, a Democrat, competed for the presidency. According to a parallel count by the Associated Press, Trump won 292 electoral votes out of the 270 minimum required for victory. He has already declared his victory.
The president hopes for cooperation with the US. Donald Trump and his team are aware of Ukraine’s position and its “Victory Plan,” which is aimed at Ukraine gaining a “strong position” at the negotiating table.
This was stated by Volodymyr Zelensky in an interview with Kyodo News. According to him, the war in Ukraine is at a critical level, which raises the question of whether Washington will continue to support Kyiv after the newly elected President Donald Trump steps down. for office.
“They are studying the plan, and we will hear them. But there will be no capitulation from Ukraine. This is a fact, and I think he understands it,” the president said.
Zelensky added that he expects additional talks with the newly elected US president to explain “some things in more detail.”
Recall, former US President’s National Security Advisor John Bolton said that when US President-elect Donald Trump is inaugurated, US military and economic aid to Ukraine may be significantly reduced, and negotiations with Russia will begin quickly.
Kyiv is ready for a ceasefire without de-occupation of the territories occupied by Russians if the rest of Ukraine comes “under the umbrella” of NATO membership. President Volodymyr Zelensky said this in an interview with the British Sky News.
In his opinion, NATO membership for the unoccupied parts of Ukraine could put an end to the “hot phase of the war,” but on condition that NATO continues to recognize Ukraine’s 1991 borders.
“If we want to stop the hot phase of the war, we need to bring the territory of Ukraine under our control under NATO’s umbrella. We need to do it quickly. And then the [occupied] territories of Ukraine… Ukraine will be able to return them through diplomatic channels,” Zelensky said.
The president noted that a ceasefire is needed that would “guarantee that Putin will not return” to seize the rest of Ukraine’s territory. According to the Ukrainian leader, NATO must “immediately” cover the part of Ukraine that remains under Kyiv’s control. According to him, this is “very necessary,” otherwise the Russians will try to attack again.
As UNIAN reported, earlier today it became known that Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga wrote a letter to his colleagues from NATO countries, in which he urged them to provide Ukraine with an official invitation to join next week at a meeting in Brussels. The letter states that this invitation nullifies one of Putin’s declared goals of the war – to prevent Ukraine from becoming a member of NATO.
However, it is worth noting that Donald Trump probably has the opposite opinion. He has appointed his special representative in Ukraine, who already has a plan for reconciliation between Ukraine and Russia ready.
